Accompanist Pianist Professor Voice Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music (Madrid, Spain)
The Reina Sofía School of Music announces an opening for the position of Collaborative Pianist Professor within the Voice Chair “Alfredo Kraus” (Fundación Ramón Areces), led by Professor Juliane Banse. The Chair collaborative pianist will coordinate their work with at least one other collaborative pianist. The role is focused not only on providing musical support for the Chair Professor’s lessons, but also on accompanying a variable number of complementary modules and subjects within the Voice study pathway, including coaching and ensemble preparation (group classes), languages applied to singing (individual classes in Italian, French, German, and English), lyric stage projects (two opera projects per academic year), vocal repertoire (individual classes), and vocal ensemble (group classes).
The Voice Chair “Alfredo Kraus” (Fundación Ramón Areces) will have 12 students in the 2026–27 academic year. The Collaborative Pianist Professor’s responsibilities include:
· Approximately 350 hours per year of teaching collaboration, expandable depending on needs and prior written agreement with the School.
· Providing one hour of joint work per week with each Chair student within the Vocal Repertoire module.
· Full availability during the visit periods of the Chair Professor, Juliane Banse: 9 visits of approximately 4–5 days per month, from October to June.
· Full availability during the visit periods of international artists for masterclasses (1 or 2 days per visit, dates to be confirmed).
· Accompanying Chair students in teaching concerts, normally one concert per trimester, in the School’s SONY Auditorium.
· Accompanying Chair students in their final undergraduate recitals or master’s graduation concerts, where applicable, in May–June.
· Accompanying Chair students in lyric stage concerts, normally two projects in total per academic year, on dates to be confirmed.
· Availability to attend concerts and activities outside teaching hours, both within and outside the School premises.
· Accompanying candidates in the Chair’s annual in-person auditions, normally held on two consecutive dates to be confirmed in March.
· Encouraging each student’s self-critical thinking and initiative in individualized study through detailed score analysis.
· Providing guidance to students on stylistically appropriate interpretation of each work.
· Providing musical support at the piano for the artistic and technical vocal guidance of the Chair Professor and Assistant Voice Professor, as well as piano-based musical support for the phonetic technique guidance provided by the applied language professors.
· Participation in Chair faculty meetings once per trimester.
· Providing constructive feedback and student evaluations quarterly.
· Being qualified to sign official grading records annually.
