8th Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition 2026

The 8th Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition 2026 invites outstanding young violists from around the world to Prague from October 29 - November 1, 2026. Open to musicians of all nationalities up to the age of 30, the competition has become one of Europe’s leading international viola events, attracting participants from dozens of countries worldwide.

Competitors will perform in a three-round format, with the 1st round submitted via video recording, followed by live semifinal and final rounds at the Prague Conservatory. The grand final will take place together with orchestra, offering finalists the opportunity to appear in a true concert setting.

In addition to financial prizes, laureates may receive a fine bow by Luboš Odlas, viola cases by GEWA, strings, rosins and a Korfker Rest by Pirastro, as well as paid concert engagements and other special awards.

The application deadline, including the 1st round video recording, is July 2, 2026.

This competition appears to include an online round that charges over €35. musicalchairs is concerned that the fee for online judging must be commensurate with the value offered to applicants whether they are successful or unsuccessful.
