Cello Bow:

Rare and fine German master cello bow, made ca. 1950 by Edwin Lothar Herrmann

Prix: TBN
From my private, non-commercial collection, therefore significantly lower priced as compared to luthiers: this German bow in A1 condition, made by Edwin Lothar HERRMANN (1914‒1987), plays very well ‒ notably, docile, easily controllable despite its relatively low weight. Octagonal pernambuco wood and fully silver-mounted.
■ weight: 76.7 gr.
■ overall length: 720 mm
■ centre of mass: 8.98 in.

Edwin Lothar hailed from a storied dynasty of achetiers spanning over 200 years. At the height of his craft, his bows sold for as much as those of his better-known French colleagues. He learned his craft from his grandfather Franz Albert and his father Edwin Otto. After completing his apprenticeship, he continued to work with his father until 1950, when he opened his first workshop. In 1961 he moved to Markneukirchen, carrying on making highly sought-after bows.
