Flute:

Henry Wylde ~ 8 Key Cocus Flute Circa 1840

Prezzo: USD$3,300.00
This flute is an enigma. It is stamped Longhurst, New York but it is clearly an imported flute from London, around 1839. I believe the maker is Henry Wylde, who originally made flutes for the esteemed Rudall & Rose in London. He also made them for several makers and dealers, that were re-stamped like this one. The flute is made from Cocus wood and the keys and rings are silver. Cocus wood is the best tone for wood flutes. It grows in the Jamaican islands, but was pretty much wiped out in the 19th century. The quality flutes had sterling silver keys and some extras like second springs to improve the action of the keys. This flute is in great condition, considering its age!
