Senior Lecturer in Flute

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne seeks to appoint an exceptional performer and accomplished teacher in the role of Senior Lecturer in Flute. The appointee will have demonstrated ability to train and inspire future professional performers in solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoires from the 18th through 21st centuries. They will have significant tertiary teaching experience, preferably in a multi-year continuing role (preferably as Lecturer or higher). They will teach solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoires, and will attract high-quality woodwind students into the BMus, Honours, MMus (Orchestral Performance) and postgraduate research programs. They will be known as a performer and recording artist for distinctive accomplishments across woodwind repertoires and for innovative and engaging contributions to musical culture and knowledge. They will contribute to practice-led research through performances, recordings, conferences and publications, and will provide skilled supervision to graduate researchers in woodwind performance and allied areas. They will contribute to administrative service and leadership in the Conservatorium, and will have the organisational and collaborative skills to contribute dynamically to the Conservatorium’s woodwind and performance programs, with keen responsiveness to the present and broad creative vision for the future.
This is an Education Focussed position, with an emphasis (60%) on impactful training of future professional creative musicians. It includes a research component to stimulate vigorous engagement with creative practice, and a service and leadership component to contribute to dynamic program delivery and design within the Conservatorium, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, and the University. A full-time appointment is expected, but a part-time appointment may be considered for a candidate with other professional artistic commitments compatible with the needs of the Conservatorium.
