SMA Infants Scheme: Musicianship Teacher

Sheffield Music Academy is a Centre for Advanced Training funded by the Department of Education’s Music and Dance Scheme to deliver the highest standard of music teaching to young people aged 4-19.

The SMA Infants Scheme offers an innovative scheme of learning to children aged 4–8. By combining high-quality instrumental tuition from an early age with interactive, fun-filled musicianship classes, the SMA Infants Scheme aims to inspire and motivate young children to fulfil their musical potential. Through a Kodaly-informed curriculum, children are encouraged to develop strong musical foundations through movement, creativity and exploration.

About the Role:
The successful candidate will work with children aged 4-8 through stages 1-4 of our Infant programme, leading small group musicianship classes. 

SMA Infants operates during term time across 30 Saturday afternoon sessions and 30 after-school Tuesday sessions each academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspiring young people to fulfil their potential through engaging and dynamic small group musicianship classes. 
• Guiding children through the first steps of their musical journey through games involving movement, rhythm, and pitch, as informed by the Sheffield Music Academy Infants curriculum. 
• Encouraging students, offering help as required, and ensuring groups remain focused and engaged.
• Inform and contribute to the Sheffield Music Academy’s Infants curriculum. 
• Work as part of a larger team to identify musical potential and champion the development and progression of learners within Sheffield Music Academy. 
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. 
• Available to work 30  Tuesdays (after school) and 30 Saturdays (afternoon) per academic year in Sheffield.
• Availability to support SMA concerts where required.
