SMA Infants: Violin Teacher

Sheffield Music Academy is a Centre for Advanced Training funded by the Department of Education’s Music and Dance Scheme.

The  SMA Infants  Scheme  offers an innovative scheme of learning to children aged 4–8. By combining high-quality instrumental tuition from an early age with interactive, fun-filled musicianship classes, the SMA Infants Scheme aims to inspire and motivate young children to fulfil their musical potential. Through a Kodaly-informed curriculum, children are encouraged to develop strong musical foundations through movement, creativity and exploration. 

We are looking for an exceptional, inspiring, and highly motivated Violin Teacher to join and contribute to our vibrant community. If you're enthusiastic about nurturing young people’s musical development, we'd love to hear from you.

The post is subject to successful references and an enhanced DBS check.

About the Role:
SMA Infants operates during term time across 30 Saturday afternoon sessions and 30 after-school Tuesday sessions each academic year.  

• We are looking for a violin teacher to deliver tuition and support Musicianship classes on our after-school Tuesday sessions, beginning in September 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspiring young people to fulfil their potential through rewarding and engaging learning.
• Confidently introducing beginners to the violin and supporting their early musical development.
• Supporting the Musicianship Lead in group musicianship classes.
• Guiding children through the first steps of their musical journey through games involving movement, rhythm, and pitch, as informed by the Sheffield Music Academy Infants curriculum.  
• Work as part of a larger team to identify musical potential and champion the development and progression of learners within Sheffield Music Academy.  
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment to encourage young musicians to take up the violin.
• Availability to work 30 Tuesdays per academic year in Sheffield.
• Availability to support SMA concerts where required.
