Cello Bow:

Rare opportunity: beautiful German master cello bow, made ca. 1930 by Friedrich (aka 'Fritz') Meinel

Prix: CHF 3.600.‒
10/2 update: this bow is currently located in Switzerland and available for tryout and/or loan upon prior arrangement.

I acquired this bow from a "Gewandhausorchester Leipzig" cellist. Silver mounted ebony frog with pearl eye. Fine condition. Its round stick’s flexibility, yet sufficient firmness produce versatile playing characteristics and mighty sound projection ‒ on a par with far more expensive French bows.

Key metrics:
■ weight: 79.62 grams
■ center of mass: 8.94 inches
■ total length: 712 mm
■ length of stick: 696 mm

Friedrich "Fritz" MEINEL (1885‒1962) was a student of W. A. PFRETZSCHNER, and he worked with Franz A. NÜRNBERGER II in Markneukirchen for many years (cf. photo of MEINEL in the Nürnberger workshop; courtesy of Christian A. Nürnberger). From 1918, he successfully ran his own workshop. MEINEL’s bows are artistically made; the NÜRNBERGER influence is recognisable in the shape of the frog and the head.
