From my collection (previously owned by a Gewandhausorchester Leipzig cellist): silver-mounted ebony frog with pearl eye in fine condition. Its round stick’s flexibility, yet adequate firmness, produce versatile playing characteristics and vibrant sound projection ‒ on a par with far more expensive French bows.

■ weight: 79.6 grams
■ centre of mass: 8.94 inches
■ total length: 712 mm
■ length of stick: 696 mm

Friedrich "Fritz" MEINEL (1885‒1962) was a student of W. A. PFRETZSCHNER, and he worked with Franz A. NÜRNBERGER II in Markneukirchen for many years (cf. photo of MEINEL in the Nürnberger workshop; photo courtesy of Christian A. Nürnberger). From 1918, he successfully ran his own workshop. MEINEL’s bows are artistically made; the NÜRNBERGER influence is recognisable in the shape of the frog and the head.
