Cello Bow:

Rare opportunity: beautiful German master cello bow, made ca. 1930 by Friedrich (aka 'Fritz') Meinel

Price: TBN
From my private collection: silver-mounted bow in fine condition, made ca. 1930 by Friedrich "Fritz" MEINEL (1885‒1962), previously owned by a Gewandhausorchester Leipzig cellist. Its round stick’s elasticity, yet adequate firmness, produce versatile playing characteristics and effortless sound projection ‒ on a par with far more expensive French bows.

■ weight: 79.6 grams
■ centre of mass: 8.94 inches
■ total length: 712 mm
■ length of stick: 696 mm

Friedrich was a student of W. A. PFRETZSCHNER, and he worked with Franz A. NÜRNBERGER II in Markneukirchen for many years (cf. photo of MEINEL in the Nürnberger workshop; photo courtesy of Christian A. Nürnberger). From 1918, he successfully ran his own workshop. MEINEL’s bows are artistically made; the NÜRNBERGER influence is recognisable in the shape of his frogs and heads.
