Conducting Workshops with Mark Shapiro

The Conducting Workshops with Mark Shapiro will take place August 6–8, 2026 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, offering intensive podium experience for early to mid career orchestral conductors, choral conductors interested in orchestral conducting, and instrumental musicians seeking a deeper understanding of the conductor’s craft.

Participants receive 90 minutes of total podium time:

4 sessions with string quintet and piano
2 sessions with a 28-piece orchestra composed of professional musicians from the Toronto Concert Orchestra

Sessions are professionally audio- and video-recorded; participants receive copies for study and professional use.

Participants will work from the following standard orchestral repertoire:
Classical
Haydn: Symphony No. 104
Mozart: Symphony No. 39, Magic Flute Overture
Beethoven: Symphony No. 1, Coriolan Overture

Romantic
Brahms: Symphony No. 2, Academic Festival Overture
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, Romeo & Juliet
Stravinsky: Firebird Suite
