Jazz Piano | Juilliard Extension

With a systematic review of core fundamentals, students will improve their ability to navigate different chord qualities and harmonic progressions, develop a rhythmic pulse and idiomatic groove devices, and expand their repertoire to enable future music making possibilities. While this course will follow the jazz tradition in prioritizing aural skills and the ability to learn and retain melodies by ear, we will also learn to interpret written lead sheets and create our own unique arrangements. This course is intended for proficient pianists who can read music (both treble and bass clef) and are familiar with musical fundamentals including major and minor scales, triads, key signatures, note values, etc. Application deadline: Tuesday, September 1 @ 5pm ET.
