Nordoff and Robbins Master of Music Therapy (MMT) - HCPC approved

The Nordoff and Robbins Master of Music Therapy (MMT) is a two-year, masters-level training programme validated by Goldsmiths, University of London. It's one of a small number of Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) approved qualifications in the UK, meaning graduates can register as Music Therapists, a legal requirement to practise in the profession.

The course is rooted in the Nordoff Robbins approach: practical, collaborative music-making at the centre of everything we teach.

We welcome applications from musicians of all ages and from all backgrounds. Life experience, and especially experience working with people in a variety of situations, is an advantage. You don't have to be classically trained, and you don't need to be able to read musical notation. But you do need a good ear, strong musical awareness, a readiness to step outside your comfort zone, and the ability to accompany someone and lead them in a new musical direction. This requires a blend of personal and musical skills, as well as the ability to think independently and write effectively.

The programme is divided into three parts of unequal length over two years, during which you will:
- Spend two consecutive teaching days a week engaging in workshops, seminars and supervision.
- Spend one day a week on a work placement at a school, hospital, hospice, within mental health services or other setting (there are
three placements throughout the entire course).
- Attend four Intensive weekends in training bases around the country.
- In addition, we expect you to allocate one day a week for private study.

Training takes place across three bases in London, Manchester and Newcastle, combining practical placements with academic study at masters level.

We're now accepting applications for our September 2027 intake in Manchester and Newcastle. The next intake for the MMT based at our London centre will be September 2028, with applications open for that cohort in September 2027.
