The Oulu Sinfonia invites applications for the permanent position of SUB-PRINCIPAL CELLO.

Oulu Sinfonia is composed of 61 musicians and is the northernmost symphony orchestra in Finland. The Oulu Sinfonia performs traditional symphony concerts, as well as a wide range of musical genres.

The task is to act as sub-principal cello in the symphony orchestra. The sub-principal cello is expected to maintain his/her playing skills and carry out all other tasks within the area of responsibility.

The position requires excellent playing skills and good social interaction skills.

Bonuses for previous work experience shall be added to the pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement along with compensations for costume and musical instrument. In addition, will be paid locally agreed media and media usage compensation.

The audition will be held on Friday the 19th of September 2025 starting at 10 am (Finnish time) at the Madetoja Hall, Leevi Madetojan katu 3, Oulu, Finland.

Audition repertoire:
- Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major, Op. 101, 1st movement with cadenza and 2nd movement
- One of the following romantic concertos of applicants choice:
Antonín Dvořák: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191, (1st movement)
Robert Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129 (1st movement)
- orchestral music excerpts sent as PDF after the application period to applicants invited to the audition.

If a member of the orchestra will be chosen to the vacancy of sub-principal cello, his/her vacancy can be filled by this audition.

The one who will be appointed to this position must submit a medical certificate for his/her state of health before accepting the position. The City of Oulu applies a probationary period of six (6) months in its permanent positions.
