Iceland Symphony Orchestra
Positions of First and Second Concertmaster
(full-time, permanent)
The audition will take place on 30 January 2026 at Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík. The application deadline is 15 December 2025. No specific application form is required; it is sufficient to apply by sending an email, including a curriculum vitae and copies of relevant diplomas, to the HR Manager at starf@sinfonia.is. Unless otherwise indicated in the application, all candidates will be considered for both positions.
Solo Repertoire
1. Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3, 4, or 5 (free choice) — first and second movements, including cadenza.
2. The first movement, including cadenza, of a violin concerto by one of the following composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Dvořák, or Tchaikovsky.
Orchestral and Potential Chamber Music Excerpts
Orchestral and chamber music excerpts will be sent electronically to candidates once the application has been accepted, along with detailed information regarding the audition time and location. In the third round of the audition, candidates may be requested to perform chamber music with members of the orchestra.
About the Positions: There are two positions available: a full-time (100%) First Concertmaster position — upon appointment, the orchestra will have two First Concertmasters — and a full-time (100%) Second Concertmaster position.
The Concertmaster is responsible for the orchestra's professional and artistic advancement. The Concertmaster is the leader of the entire orchestra and is responsible vis-à-vis the conductor for ensuring that the orchestra's behaviour and performance are disciplined and focused. The Concertmaster, among other things, participates in outreach activities on behalf of the orchestra and undertakes other duties in consultation with the management team. Additionally, the Concertmaster is expected to prepare and perform any solo passages as required. A university-level qualification in instrumental performance is required.
