Professional Chorus Alto able to hold an Alto 1 position
Dijon Opera develops a leading lyric and musical program with over 70 curtain raises and more than 60 000 spectators each season. Since 2017, it has held the label "Opera lyric of National interest." With a budget of approximately 12 million euros, the Dijon Opera is a creative house, employing nearly 85 permanent staff, including a permanent artistic force with a 21 persons choir and a pianist, a sewing workshop, a scenery workshop, and a construction workshop.
Audition’s dates for Alto able to hold an alto 1 position : Auditions will be held :
- 31 th August 2026, from 10 am
- 1st September 2026, from 10 am
on the stage of Dijon Auditorium, 11 Boulevard de Verdun - 21000 Dijon
An audition will be held on these two dates.
Candidates will choose the date that suits them best, depending on their availability.
Deadline to register: 25th August 2026
Following the terms prescribed by the CCNEAC, salary grid for chorus singers (French collective bargaining agreement for art institutions), taking into account the candidate's professional experience.
The job vacancy starts from 1st February 2027.
1st round :
1. An opera aria in original to choose from
2. A choir part of the choir score of : Abstract from F. Poulenc « Stabat Mater », « VIII. Fac ut ardeat » (see enclosure)
3. Great vocalise of Rossini from the note “C”
2nd round :
1. Decoding of a melody or abstract from an opera choir or oratorio.
The candidate will have 5 minutes to prepare this test.
2. A free aria style and era differents from the free aria style of the first round.
3.One choir part of choir scores : Abstract from H. Berlioz « Romeo and Juliet » (see enclosure)
3rd round :
1. Rehearsal :
Working with the whole alto choir, under the musical direction of the choir master for the following abstracts :
Abstract from P. Mascagni « Cavalleria Rusticana » (see enclosure) and Abstract from J-S Bach « The Passion according to Saint Matthieu » (see enclosure)
2. Interview with jury members (10 to 20 minutes). This interview will focus primarily, but not exclusively, on the candidate's professional experience and motivation. Human qualities will also be considered.

Terms :
A video or audio recording of a free aria by the candidate must be included with the application; no application will be accepted without it.
Opera reserves the right to request the following from the candidate:
- proof of education or professional experience (diploma(s) and/or work certificates);
- references from previous employers;
- a work permit in France for foreign residents currently living in France.
For foreigners who no reside in France, Dijon Opera will be able to take, with their collaboration, the necessary steps with the French authorities to obtain a work permit.
At the end of each of the two audition’s dates, a finalist will be selected. The candidates who perform the second round of the audition on 31th August 2026 will be film so that jury’s members can review the recording of the first finalist.
The final choice will be made at the end of the audition on 1st September 2026.
