Bassoon:
Heckel 7864
Price: 35,000 US Dollars
Truly one-of-a-kind Heckel, #7864, produced for Thom de Klerk, First Solo Bassoonist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra from 1935-1966. After de Klerk's passing, it was acquired by a colleague, and I've been the 3rd owner since 2007. To honor de Klerk, the 2nd owner had a series of plaques with their two names on it, one for each joint, but only one remains, and I had Keith Bowen place it on the bell joint. Completely overhauled and refinished, wood and metal, by Keith Bowen, and has been stored for a number of years. Silver Tone Hole inserts placed by Jim Keyes in 2016. This is such a sweet sounding and comfortable Heckel to play. True Master Series Heckel sound.
The instrument was recently play tested by a colleague, Tom Greaves, Associate/Principal of the Barcelona Symphony. He can be reached at WhatsApp: +34 617 473 092 or: byobassoon@gmail.com for his personal comments.
