Cello Bow:
Exceptionally mighty, robust and powerful German cello bow, made ca. 1990 by Kurt Schäffner
Price: TBN
This bow is certainly no featherweight, boasting 85.37 grams and a centre of mass at 9.60" (length: 71.7cm). With the right physical proportions, sufficient strength in the bowing arm/hand and/or a large instrument, this bow might very well help realise your (instrument's) full potential.
Choice octagonal pernambuco wood; fully silver-mounted ebony frog with Parisian eye and two silver rings on the button.
Serious potential buyers can borrow the bow free of charge.
Kurt SCHÄFFNER (1929‒2005) was an apprentice at the renowned H. R. PFRETZSCHNER's workshop from 1943 to 1946. After graduation, he continued to work for the PFRETZSCHNER workshop that H. R.'s sons, Richard Hermann & Berthold Walter, had taken over in 1914. In 1990, he opened his own workshop and carried on making coveted bows. In 1998, his son Dietmar ‒ representing the fifth generation ‒ followed in his footsteps.
Other cello bow listings: 10/3/25, 12/9/25, 1/4/26, 1/12/26
