Violin:
Violin built by Guust Francois Amsterdam 1996
Price: 12.500 euro
The violin is built after the Carlo Bergonzi 1731 model.
The back, ribs and scroll are made of finely flamed maple; the top plate is made of medium grain spruce, finished with a yellow brown oil varnish.
Instrument dimensions:
• Body length: 35.7 cm
• Widths: 16.8 / 11.4 / 20.7 cm
This violin was newly built for my mother and has always remained in her possession.
Maker: Guust Francois
Guust Francois was born in 1956 in Teteringen (the Netherlands). From 1978 to 1982 he studied violin making under Francesco Bissolotti at the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria in Cremona.
Together with fellow students, he subsequently ran a shared workshop in Campo Corto, Tuscany, where he also worked as a cellist in the festival orchestra of Bagni di Lucca.
After working in New York with McGhee and Keene, he opened his own workshop in Amsterdam in 1993, where this violin was built in 1996.
