Fine Rare British Gold-Mounted Cello Bow by Garner Wilson – 76g – Tudor Rose Inlay from 1980s

A fine cello bow crafted by renowned British bow maker Garner Wilson (1944–2013).

Wilson trained at W.E. Hill & Sons, where he worked under the highly regarded bow maker Arthur Bultitude, before establishing his own independent career. His bows are sought after by professional cellists and collectors.

The Tudor Rose decoration on this bow is particularly notable and reflects Wilson’s connection with the British Hill tradition and his mentor Arthur Bultitude.

Before Wilson adopted his later signature double-concentric-hoop (Parisian eye) design, he produced a small number of bows featuring Tudor Rose decoration in the frog. It has been suggested that examples such as this may represent an interesting period in the development of Wilson’s individual style, bridging his Hill training with his later independent work. This interpretation is not documented as proven provenance, but is an interesting feature of the bow for collectors of Wilson’s work.
