Baumgartner Violin Op. 141
Stolen: 25 Oct 2025 - Near Bozen, Italy
It was stolen out of a Railjet (Austrian) train.
Description of Instrument:
The stolen violin was made by Fritz Baumgartner and bears the inscription
fecit Anno 1941 (or maybe 1942, I'm not 100% sure)
Inside the instrument there is also a dedication that approximately reads:
“To the esteemed violinist Fritz Hirt.”
Opus 141
The number 2888 is likely located at the joint of the lower ribs, beneath the endpin.
This violin means a great deal to me. I am the violinist of the Maxjoseph Quartet, and without this instrument, our sound is simply no longer the same.
Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to locate better photographs. The black chin rest corresponds to its current setup.
Thank you very much for your help and for spreading this information.
Kind regards,
Nathanael
