Sheffield Music Academy is a vibrant and thriving music education charity, nurturing the next generation of musicians in the region. We inspire and support musicians aged 4-19 through 1-1 teaching, ensembles, theory classes, and more – enabling young people to become well rounded and experienced musicians.
We are looking for an exceptional, inspiring, and highly motivated Cello Teacher to join our team at this exciting time for SMA, as we prepare to expand into Canada House as part of the Harmony Works project. If you're enthusiastic about nurturing young people’s musical development, we'd love to hear from you.
The post is subject to successful references and an enhanced DBS check.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will teach across two Academy sites:
• Main Academy (ages 8-18)
• Infants Academy (ages 4-8)
You will deliver engaging cello tuition in a variety of settings including:
• 1:1 lessons
• Small group teaching
The role also involves leading and supporting ensemble sessions, working collaboratively to provide positive and inclusive learning.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inspiring young people to fulfil their potential through rewarding, and engaging learning.
• Confidently introducing beginners to the cello and supporting their early musical development.
• Support weekly musicianship classes by encouraging students, offering help as required, and ensuring groups remain focused and engaged.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
• Availability to work 30 Saturdays per academic year in Sheffield.
• Availability for three concerts per year: two informal events (Christmas and end of year) and one large public concert in May.
What We’re Looking For:
• Conservatoire training in cello.
• Proven experience teaching cello to young people of various ages and stages, including beginners.
• Confidence working in 1:1, groups and ensembles settings, both in leading and supporting roles.
• A passion for fostering young
