Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the above position. This is a full-time, contract position.

Based in Poole, Dorset, BSO perform extensively across the south and south-west of England, nationally and internationally, and also deliver an extensive range of education and community work, through its award-winning Participate department.

The Orchestra’s Chief Conductor is Mark Wigglesworth; Leader Amyn Merchant.

All applicants will either be invited to submit an initial video audition or be invited directly to live auditions, based on demonstrable experience on applications. Those who are successful in the video round will also be invited to live auditions. Please note that the CV round is anonymous.

Live auditions will be held in Poole/Bournemouth in the Autumn 2026. Please check back to see confirmed dates.

Video submission repertoire:

- Exposition of either Stamitz or Hoffmeister Concerto (no cadenza)

The following excerpts:

- Britten – Passacaglia from Peter Grimes (two excerpts)

- Mendelssohn – A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Scherzo

Live audition repertoire:

- 1st movement of either Walton, Bartok or Hindemith Concertos

- Excerpts
